Bacon Brittle |
Most everyone who
knows me knows that I am a bacon addict.
I ran across this idea about a year ago, and decided to give it a try. Yep, brittle is better with BACON!!! This is now a must have in our household and always a mouth watering experience upon mention ENJOY!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
-
at least 1/2 cup chopped cooked bacon (add more for more smokiness)
(NOTE: Pat dry the bacon, greasy bacon isn’t good for
this recipe)
- Grease or butter a large baking sheet or shallow pan.
- In a saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup and water over medium heat.
- Stir until the sugar dissolves and the syrup comes to a boil.
- Attach a candy thermometer to the pan, increase the heat to high, and cook, without stirring, until the mixture reaches 300 degrees.
- Immediately remove from the heat.
- Stir in the butter, vanilla, baking soda, and bacon bits.
- When the foam subsides, pour the hot mixture onto the prepared baking sheet as thinly as possible.
- Cool at least 10 minutes before breaking into pieces.
- If you have any leftovers (which you shouldn’t) store in a covered container.
